U.S. President Joe Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a call last week to “prepare” a retaliatory strike on Iran, aimed at deterring future attacks, CNN reports, citing a U.S. administration official.

According to the channel, American officials anticipated Israel would respond to Iran by November 5. In the call, Biden discussed the overall situation and “urged the Prime Minister to devise a response that would deter further attacks on Israel while reducing the risk of further escalation,” said the source.

“Our objective aligns with Israel’s—to deter further aggression from Iran and to be fully prepared to defend against any response,” the official stated.

Israel’s armed forces reported strikes against Iranian military targets in response to “months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime.” The U.S. administration noted that American forces did not participate in Israel’s operation against Iran.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer appealed to Iran to avoid retaliation, stating that the Middle East must “steer clear of further regional escalation.”
