Yurii Polityka, a 33-year-old Belarusian citizen, is being tried for espionage in Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) accuses him of transferring data to a foreign state.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, Polityka is facing eight to15 years in prison for transferring classified information.

” Polityka tried to take an aerial photo of the ATO zone on his smartphone. It was also accompanied by a secret map of the offensive operation, Storm, which was planned by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in July 2017, between Mariupol and Novoazovsk,” the public prosecutor’s office said.

Polityka insists that he is not guilty and calls it a set-up.

“I completely deny my guilt. I’m not a spy! I have not worked for either Belarus or Russia. They have only assumptions. They are not sure at all,” Polityka said.

According to Polityka, he was beaten after his arrest in an attempt to get him to admit his guilt. The SBU has denied this.

Polityka has been in prison for more than eight months. Pre-trial hearings of the case began in February, in Chernihiv. The next hearing is scheduled for March 27.
