Any hybrid tribunal will allow the Kremlin to escape punishment for the crime of aggression – Kallas

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is pushing for a special tribunal to hold Putin and other Russian leaders accountable for the crime of aggression. The prime minister said this the day before at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Zhytomyr, FREEDOM reports.

Kallas stressed that any hybrid tribunal would allow Putin and his entourage to evade responsibility for the crime of aggression.

“We support the international tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression. I am a lawyer by training and I can say that any hybrid tribunal will allow Putin, Lavrov and others to escape punishment. The crime of aggression is a crime committed by leaders, and it is they who must be held accountable for this crime. I think one of the roadblocks to that is that the ICC [International Criminal Court] has already taken steps to arrest Putin and some would say that this is a victory. That is, there is already a warrant for the arrest of Putin for the deportation of children. This is true, but I am very actively in favor of an international tribunal in a very clear format that will bring to justice the leaders of Russia – those who decided to attack Ukraine, ”said the Prime Minister of Estonia.

Recall that on Monday, April 24, during a working trip to the Zhytomyr region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia Kaya Kallas, who arrived in Ukraine on a visit. Tallinn took over the patronage of the restoration of infrastructure facilities in the region destroyed by the Russian army. After the official part of the visit, the Prime Minister of Estonia and the President of Ukraine talked to students of the Zhytomyr Polytechnic.
