The annual action “Empty Chairs” takes place on Sofia Square in Kyiv. On them are the names of Ukrainians who are illegally detained in prisons in Russia and the occupied Crimea for political reasons.

The purpose of the action is to remind Ukrainians and the world community about our citizens who are illegally detained and call on the authorities to do everything possible to release Ukrainian prisoners.
Writers, musicians, actors and journalists read letters that will later be sent to Kremlin prisoners.
According to the organizers of the action, about 300 Ukrainians are being held captive in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. 127 Ukrainian prisoners are being held in prisons in Russia and the occupied Crimea, 89 of them are Crimean Tatars.
