Approximately 40 pro-government troops in Syria were killed in the night during airstrikes along the eastern border of Syria with Iraq.
This was reported by the Great Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to the Syrian government’s news agency, last night’s airstrike target was al-Khari. The Syrian government accused the United States-led coalition of the strike on its troops.
However, U.S. Spokesman Col. Sean Ryan said neither U.S. forces nor the U.S.-led coalition carried out the strikes.
The U.S.-led coalition has struck Syrian pro-government forces in the past when they’ve tried to cross to the east side of the Euphrates River.
However, the overnight attacks took place on the west side of the river, where Syrian troops and allied militias, backed by Russian airstrikes, have been conducting operations, some of which have resulted in numerous civilian deaths.
