NATO and the European Union will approve a new defense declaration against the background of Russia’s aggression. This will be the third such declaration. It should identify the main areas of cooperation between the two organizations against the background of growing aggression by Russia and China. This was reported by UA.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the common interests of the Alliance and the EU include issues of military mobility, security at sea, and combating cyber and hybrid threats.
“I am convinced that the time has come to update our declaration and to set further ambitious goals for NATO-EU cooperation. We share the same values and we face the same challenges. And in many ways we have common members: more than 90% of the people who live in the European Union, they also live in NATO countries. That’s why it makes sense to work together” – Stoltenberg said.
At the same time, the EU intends to increase its strategic autonomy in the field of defense, in particular to create a rapid reaction corps, which will include 5,000 servicemen. It will be set up to support the EU mission and the likely response to crises.
