A ship with Ukrainian sailors detained in Turkey

On July 10 a ship with Ukrainian crew has been detained in Turkey on suspicion of drug trafficking. The ship’s captain and his 3 mates were arrested.

Spokesman of the Ukrainian foreign ministry Oleh Nikolenko told this, Ukrinform reports.

He told that Turkish law enforcement detained the MSC CAPUCINE R under the flag of Liberia in the İskenderun seaport. Its crew consists of 24 Ukrainians and a foreigner.

“The following day the prosecutor’s office of the İskenderun seaport has arrested the captain and his 3 mates. All of them are citizens of Ukraine. They’ve been charged with drug trafficking” – Nikolenko noted.

The MFA spokesman told that the Embassy of Ukraine in Turkey is providing the detained with consular assistance. Besides, the Embassy has addressed the Turkish side with a request of access to the investigation materials as well as to the detained Ukrainian sailors.

Other members of the crew remain on board and participate in the investigation as witnesses.
