Members of the European Parliament have improved and approved a proposal to allocate 50 billion euros to support the recovery, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine from 2024. This was reported by the press service of the European Parliament, FREEDOM reports.

The Budget and Foreign Affairs Committees adopted their position regarding the creation of the Fund for Ukraine by 86 votes in favor, 6 against and 2 abstentions. The assistance package is designed for 2024-2027.

“The proposed Ukraine Fund is part of the ongoing review of the EU’s long-term budget, which needs adjustments as it has been seriously depleted following multiple crises since 2021. MEPs insist that the Fund, along with the entire budget review, must be agreed as soon as possible, since there will be no provisions for assistance to Ukraine from 2024. The package should also be integrated into next year’s annual budget, which will be negotiated in November,” the message reads.

The press service also noted that one of the key demands of members of the European Parliament is the use of assets of the Russian Federation or other legal entities or individuals directly related to Russia’s aggressive war to restore Ukraine.

“MEPs have strengthened provisions to combat fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and irregularities in the use of EU funds in Ukraine. Companies under oligarchic influence should not have the right to funding,” the European Parliament said.

The committees also amended a proposal to make the Fund more transparent. For this purpose, a web portal will be created on which financial transactions will be displayed. Contributions received from third countries and international organizations must be made public.

Voting on the draft report is scheduled for October 16-19.
