Ursula von der Leyen criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his attempt to appease the aggressor disguised as ‘peace talks’.
She said this during her address to the European Parliament before a vote on her second term as EU Commission president.
“Two weeks ago, a European Union prime minister went to Moscow. This so-called peace mission was nothing but an appeasement mission. This was a plain appeasement mission,” von der Leyen emphasized.
She added that Russia hit Okhmatdyt in Kyiv only two days after a Putin-Orban meeting and it was not a mistake but a “chilling” message to Europe.
Hence, she promised to both continue supporting Ukraine as long as it takes and to turn the EU into a “true European Defence Union” with emphasis on air and cyber security.
