Russia failed to create problems and divisions within NATO. Political scientist Maxim Dzhigun stated this on the FREEDOM TV channel.
He recalled that back in 2022, NATO countries recognized the Russian Federation as the main threat to the bloc and began searching for ways to minimize these risks. Thus, in 2023, members of the Alliance made decisions to increase the production of various types of weapons and assistance to Ukraine.
“In 2024, we see that a new coalition to support Ukraine is being created every year with the allocation of 40 billion euros. Although we understand that approximately the same amounts were allocated in previous years, they were not somehow combined, they were not coordinated by NATO. This year a platform appeared, as I understand it, it will replace “Ramstein”, which took place under the protectorate, so to speak, and the leadership of the United States. Today NATO is taking over this role, and we will see that, let’s say, the situation in Ukraine will depend not only on the United States,” Dzhigun said.
The political scientist noted that all these steps were taken in connection with the internal political situation in the United States, since the Alliance wants to somehow protect itself and create tools to protect its interests and the interests of Ukraine.
“At a time when the Russian Federation is trying to undermine the unity of forces within the Alliance and is trying to create some problems within the bloc and divide the positions of the main countries, we still see that decisions and models of behavior of NATO in relation to Russia and, of course, are unanimously adopted , to China and other authoritarian regimes in the world. Today, Stoltenberg, Biden, Scholz, and other leaders of the Alliance understand that this is a unique time when, say, there are more challenges for NATO than ever before, and we need to unite in order to minimize these threats,” Jigun said.
He emphasized that at the same time, the issue of Ukraine remains key for NATO, and at the Washington summit quite a lot of statements were made to strengthen its defense capability.
