In the Office of the President of Ukraine (OPU), the founding meeting of the working group was held, which will work on the implementation of the ninth point of the peace formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky — “Preventing escalation of war and repetition of aggression.” This was reported by FREEDOM today, August 17, with reference to the press service of the President of Ukraine.

Ambassadors and authorized representatives of the embassies of the Group of Seven (G7) countries, the European Union and almost all the countries that have already managed to join the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine in providing security guarantees took part in the meeting in a hybrid format.

The head of the OPU Andriy Yermak thanked the participants of the meeting for their willingness to make joint efforts to implement the peace formula also in the format of working groups, which will increase the effectiveness of activities and allow to focus on such priority areas as security.

“The purpose of our meeting today is to develop a very specific and detailed agenda regarding the ninth point of the peace formula, as well as to work out practical expectations for its implementation,” he emphasized.

The head of the OPU thanked the G7 countries, which after the NATO Summit in Vilnius (Lithuania) adopted the Joint Declaration on Support for Security Guarantees for Ukraine, and stated that within a month, 15 more countries had joined the signatories of this important document. He also noted that the Declaration is open for accession, and the number of signatory countries is constantly increasing.

“Many things that we consider as preventive measures to prevent the recurrence of aggression in the future are laid down precisely in security guarantees for Ukraine,” Yermak said.

He also recalled the start of negotiations between Ukraine and the United States, as well as between Ukraine and Great Britain on the preparation of bilateral security agreements, and announced the start of bilateral negotiations with a number of other countries, including the Group of Seven, in the near future.

“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine proved that the existing world security system does not work. That is why Ukraine is counting on the fact that the security guarantees, on which we are currently working together, will become the basis for a new, much more effective security system,” Yermak emphasized, stressing that this is why Ukraine considers the security clause of the formula one of the most important.

“Your opinion, your position and support are very important to us. We will listen to your advice. The implementation of the peace formula should become our joint success,” concluded Yermak and called on those present to further fruitful work on the implementation of the peace formula.

The deputy head of the President’s Office, Ihor Zhovkva, informed in detail about Ukraine’s vision regarding the implementation of the security clause of the peace formula, its components and the procedure for further activities of the relevant working group.

“This working group is important because it is not only about security guarantees. It contains almost all the elements of the rest of the clauses of the peace formula. This working group is about how to stop Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, prevent escalation, and what preventive measures should be taken to prevent aggression in the future, after our victory,” stressed the deputy head of the OPU.
