The Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied Crimea intimidate the local population, demonize Ukraine and prohibit the use of the national flag of the Crimean Tatars. Today, August 13, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, spoke about this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.
“Against the background of the terrible war that is taking place, the Russian occupiers in Crimea will use everything possible to suppress the will of the people and totally control the mood in society. There is such a large-scale intimidation of people in Crimea, Ukraine is demonized as a state, everything Ukrainian is declared as a manifestation of hostility towards Russia,” he said.
Chubarov said that on the peninsula, local collaborators are calling to stop cars that use Ukrainian license plates in order to force their owners to tape over symbols that remind them of Ukraine.
At the same time, the so-called “authorities” in Crimea prohibit the use of the national Crimean Tatar flag.
“Especially when there are a lot of events around the world using the Crimean national flag. A very visible event on the Day of the Crimean Tatar flag was recently held in many regions of mainland Ukraine. Of course, the Russian occupiers have now got their hands on the flag and are banning its use in Crimea. They think that in this way they will be able to suppress the mood in the Crimean society,” concluded Refat Chubarov.
