Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the leader of a totalitarian regime, essentially forced NATO to strengthen and gave the Alliance a new meaning. This opinion was expressed by the Russian opposition politician, State Duma deputy of the Russian Federation (2001-2012) Gennady Gudkov on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.
He is convinced that the Alliance should be the muscles and strength of democracy, oppose dictatorships, and, in fact, perform the function of the UN.
“Putin has finally given the NATO alliance a political and military meaning – this is the protection of the interests of democracies around the world from frostbitten, sick criminal dictators, dictatorships, authoritarian totalitarian regimes that hatch plans for world domination, world robbery and so on,” he said. Gudkov.
He also believes that now it makes no sense to conduct polls among Russians whether they support Ukraine’s entry into NATO.
“In Russia now, perhaps, it’s not North Korea, where the death penalty is for everything, but this is a serious concentration camp, let’s say, the degree of the camp regime … Do you want a person there to say that NATO is good? But right there they will declare him an enemy of the people, they will immediately stick an article, the persecution will immediately begin, he will immediately begin to study all kinds of accounts, social networks and so on. Find something to attract. They will now compensate for Putin’s defeat, Putin’s humiliation by intensifying the cruelty of repression. This is absolutely obvious, ”Gudkov emphasized.
He is also convinced that in the future Russia, where there will be democracy and freedom, and not Putin’s regime, should become a member of NATO.
As previously reported, the most important international meeting of the year for Ukraine, the NATO summit in Vilnius, was called historical and decisive even before the start. Kyiv expects fateful decisions. Ukraine insists that at the summit it is necessary to fix not only the fact that one day it will be in NATO, and decide on the timing, it is also important to agree on the details of the entry procedure. It should be accelerated following the example of Finland.
