Munich conference knocks stool out from under Putin’s feet – Russia loses influence – special correspondent

The Munich Security Conference is a global event. And Ukraine this year was in his focus. And this, one might say, knocks the stool out from under the feet of Russian President Putin. Now it is Ukraine and the Western liberal world that are claiming to establish a more just world order. This opinion was shared by Vitaliy Sizov, a special correspondent of Ukraine’s foreign broadcasting channel FREEDOM in Europe.

“Ukraine is the main topic in general, one might say. This, roughly speaking, knocks the stool out from under Putin’s feet, because the rhetoric that was heard at this conference today is what Putin partially spoke about in 2007 and tried to privatize this agenda. When he said that there is a Global South and its interests are not taken into account enough. This is where people like Putin play and manipulate. He wanted to present himself as a defender of the rights of these people. And now we see that the initiative is being knocked out of the hands of Russia. Now Ukraine and the Western liberal world are claiming to establish a more just world order so that the economy, politics, the military sphere, all this works in the interests of a person, in the interests of his development, regardless of which continent he lives on, in which country, in which part of the world,” Sizov said.

He recalled that the report, which was published on the eve of the meeting, analyzed how Ukraine is perceived in the world. And, just the same, the perception of Ukraine has improved significantly, including in the countries of the Global South, while the perception of the Russian Federation has deteriorated significantly.

“But it is clear that there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that Russia is never again able to manipulate the opinion of countries that may not know much about Ukraine and mistakenly believe that this is the kind of country that the Western world helps, eh. they say, he didn’t help us at one time, or he didn’t treat us very correctly and unfairly,” the journalist said.

Also at the conference, they talked a lot about weapons for the Ukrainian military. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba held a briefing on this topic on the sidelines of the conference.

“He said that, in principle, he was completely satisfied with what he heard. According to Kuleba, Ukraine has already received six of the seven types of weapons it requires. It remains to get only the planes. But this is already a settled issue, a matter of time. Therefore, he is optimistic about the future and is waiting for the next day of negotiations, ”added Sizov.

He also noted that the Munich Conference is still more of a discussion event where people exchange views. In general, this is a kind of probing of positions. Therefore, it is not worth waiting for any concrete results based on the results.

However, according to Sizov, in general, the Munich Conference and meetings on its sidelines will somehow influence the policies of states, because when making decisions, they can also be guided by the information that they received during informal communication here.

“This creates the necessary atmosphere and maintains it among the political class, the expert class. This keeps the focus on Ukraine, reminds us that the war is not over. The war continues, and if maybe there is less of it in the news, this does not mean that there are fewer people dying. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, both financial and military,” the special correspondent emphasized.
