Russia uses surface drones in the Black Sea – military observer calls threats

Russia has started using maritime surface drones in the war against Ukraine. They pose a threat to civil navigation in the Black Sea and impede the implementation of the Grain from Ukraine initiative. This opinion was voiced by military observer Denys Popovych on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel today, February 12.

“Obviously, they, unfortunately, can learn from the experience that took place on October 27 last year, when the Sevastopol naval base was attacked with the help of surface drones, and then some ships were damaged, which, in general, are recognized and the Russian side. And such drones can be used exactly to cause damage,” Popovych said.

This is probably part of a large offensive that the Russian invaders are carrying out along the entire front line, on land and on water, the observer admits.

He also does not rule out new agreements between the Russian Federation and Iran.

“There was also information that Iran attacked a surface target with a surface drone. Therefore, it is quite possible to assume that the cooperation between Russia and Iran, which is currently being carried out in the field of aerial drones, can also extend to surface vehicles that are capable of operating at sea,” Popovych said.

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, in a telephone conversation with Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, said that the Russian Federation uses surface drones in the Black Sea.
