Denys Shmyhal and Ursula von der Leyen discuss Ukraine’s integration into the EU internal market

The integration of Ukraine into the internal market of the European Union, the export of Ukrainian electricity, and the restoration of our state were among the issues raised during a meeting in Kyiv by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The Head of Government thanked the Head of the European Commission for another visit to Ukraine during a full-scale war — this, according to him, is a great sign of active cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on the way to full membership.

“I am grateful that the European Union and Mrs. President support us indisputably. This gives us firm confidence in our strength and our victory,” stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission discussed the future bilateral cooperation and support of our state in the coming year. The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked for the financial and military assistance that the European Union had provided to Ukraine.

Moreover, the parties tackled the continued strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia and the process of restoring Ukraine. According to the Prime Minister, a shared vision of the platform and reconstruction of our country will be presented at a conference in Germany in October.

Denys Shmyhal and Ursula von der Leyen agreed to cooperate along the way on the export of electricity from Ukraine to EU countries and touched on the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

“We have to find a solution to demilitarize the station and the area surrounding it,” said the Head of the Government.

Among other things, the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission discussed the integration of our country into the EU internal market, in particular into the European free roaming zone, as well as customs cooperation issues.

Ursula von der Leyen, for her part, congratulated Ukraine on its military successes in the East of the country and announced that the European Union would provide our country with EUR 100 million to restore schools destroyed as a result of Russian shellings.
