The EU will support “DOM” TV channel – Maasikas

The European Union will support TV channel “DOM”.

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maaskias told this delivering a speech at the International Ukraine Reform Conference held in Vilnius, Ukrinform reports.

“The EU is going to support TV channel “DOM” aimed at conquering the hearts and minds of the citizens of Ukraine, residing in the temporarily uncontrolled territories” – Maaskias said.

Besides, he stressed on the importance of adoption of the laws, regulating the media, as foreseen by the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

Matti Maasikas added that EU coordinates its actions with Ukraine within a number of initiatives aimed at countering misinformation, and noted that Ukrainian society remains open and pluralistic in the media sphere.

To remind, TV channel “DOM” started broadcasting on March 1, 2020 to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Its aim is to objectively inform the Ukrainians in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol until they turn to Ukrainian agenda.

Starting March 1, 2021 Tv channel “DOM” has significantly expanded its coverage: the channel started broadcasting via satellite, increased the amount of analogue and digital transmitters, and appeared in cable networks of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (on the territory, controlled by Ukrainian government). Besides, since March 1, the on-line broadcast is also available at the TV channel’s web-site.

Earlier, the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus has banned broadcasting of 2 Ukrainian TV channels on the territory of the country. Among them is the Ukrainian Russian-language foreign broadcaster “UA”, which, along with the TV channel “DOM”, is a part of the State Enterprise “International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine”.
