Hostage Rescue Drills

In the town of Kovel, terrorists took hostage three railway workers and barricaded themselves inside a train. This was the story of the training held by the SBU, police and national guard. Hostage rescue served as a culmination of drills.

Ukraine’s security service operatives have received information that there is a saboteur group in the city. This is a life-like scenario used for training purposes. Three railway workers were taken as hostages. Negotiations lasted for 4 hours without any luck.

The operatives decided to launch an offensive. SBU special force unit “Alpha” together with a group from the national guard led the operation.

A tactical group stormed the train car where the armed men were located.

The special operation lasted for 15 minutes. Six men were detained and all hostages were freed. The train car is covered in bullet holes.

This exercise allows law enforcement operatives to learn how to work with different units.

Such training will be held in Kovel for three days. Local residents undergo document checks in special entry-exit checkpoints around the town. Local residents say they don’t mind the drills being held in their town.
