On May 30, 2019, three Czech scientists from the atmospheric aerosol research team will give a lecture in Kryvyi Rih.

The Doctor of Natural Sciences, Jan Hovorka; an expert in air quality measurement, Jan Bendl; and the director of the company Science In, Peter Mares, will be giving the lecture, Radio Svoboda reported.

They have organized a tour of Ukrainian cities to talk about the Czech experience in creating an independent air quality monitoring network. Thus, scientists from the Faculty of Science, Institute for Environmental Studies at Charles University, together with the NGO Arnika, are working to help Ukraine reduce air pollution.

It is planned that local communities will be able to receive grants to combat polluting emissions.

“People do not have access to data on air pollution or information about which pollutants are emitted by particular enterprises. Therefore, people have no chance to fight it. Thousands of people die every year in Ukraine, as a result of air pollution,” Arnika Сhairman Martin Skalsky said.

According to official WHO data, Ukraine is among the most polluted countries in Europe.
