The countries of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) have expressed support for opening all negotiation clusters in Ukraine’s EU accession process during June and July.
The position was outlined in the declaration adopted at the NB8 Leaders’ Summit, UATV English reports.
The leaders stated that the future of Ukraine and its citizens lies within the European Union.
“The NB8 countries recognize Ukraine’s progress in implementing comprehensive reforms. Ukraine’s efforts in this direction must continue, and we will keep supporting them by all necessary means. The leaders welcome the progress achieved in Ukraine’s EU accession process and express their support for opening all negotiation clusters in June–July 2026 without further delay,” the declaration states.
The leaders added that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union should be completed as quickly as possible, while respecting the merit-based principle.
“Ukraine’s membership in the EU is one of the key security guarantees for both Ukraine and Europe,” they emphasized.
The declaration also notes that Ukraine is a strategic security partner of NATO, contributing directly to Euro-Atlantic security through its combat experience, technological innovation, and industrial capacity.
“We support Ukraine on its irreversible path toward full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership,” the leaders stated.
According to reports, the opening of the first accession cluster, “Fundamentals,” in the EU membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova is scheduled for June 15.
Earlier, Marta Kos stated in Kyiv that Ukraine should become more deeply integrated into the European Union even before obtaining full membership.
As is known, Hungary had long blocked Ukraine’s progress toward EU accession, and the obstacle was removed only after a change in the country’s prime minister.
