Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen believes that Europe cannot rearm effectively without Ukraine.

She made the remarks during a joint press conference of Nordic and Baltic leaders attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UATV English reports.

The Danish prime minister stressed that Russia is testing Europe’s ability to defend itself and respond to provocations, urging Europeans to face this reality without illusions.

“They use false narratives and disinformation to create fear and divide us. They threaten to use force against the Baltic states and against NATO. They claim that it may be necessary to protect Russians abroad by military means. All of this is part of the Kremlin’s standard playbook,” Frederiksen said.

In this context, she called on Europe to accelerate its rearmament efforts. According to her, this process can only be effective with Ukraine’s participation.

“We need new capabilities, we need innovation now, because innovation determines the outcome on the battlefield. We see this in Ukraine every day… Europe cannot rearm effectively without Ukraine. And our support for Ukraine is not charity—it is self-defense,” she emphasized.

On Tuesday, Frederiksen also stated that investments in defense and deterrence should be made in cooperation with Ukraine.

She recently expressed confidence that Russia is preparing for a new wave of aggression against European countries.
