Moldova is planning to develop and produce interceptor drones in cooperation with Ukraine, drawing on Ukraine’s experience in countering aerial attacks, UATV English informs.

According to Reuters, Moldovan President Maia Sandu has initiated efforts to develop domestic counter-drone capabilities as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s airspace security.

Sandu noted that Moldova has repeatedly experienced incidents involving Russian drones entering its airspace and stressed the need to improve national defenses.

“Those who want our country to remain completely defenseless should understand that there is a risk that drones could fall on our territory and we would be unable to do anything about it,” Sandu said.

The Moldovan government is preparing legislative changes that would allow greater participation by private companies and foreign investors in the defense sector. Particular attention will be paid to drone technologies and air-defense innovation.

Sandu added that Chisinau intends to study Ukraine’s experience in countering drone and missile attacks and apply relevant lessons to Moldova’s own defense programs.

The initiative comes amid broader regional defense cooperation. Earlier, Ukraine and Lithuania discussed expanding cooperation in the defense industry, including joint projects involving interceptor drones, naval drones, and ammunition production.
