Immediately after the meeting in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian side launched work on algorithms for proper monitoring of compliance with a possible ceasefire, as well as the modalities of future peace agreements.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who spoke at a joint press conference in Kyiv with his Austrian counterpaer Beate Meinl-Reisinger, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized Ukraine takes its decisions extremely responsibly, so immediately after returning from Jeddah, the negotiating team reported to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the outcome of the meeting with the American side and put forward proposals for further steps.
“We have already actually begun forming a national team that will develop appropriate algorithms for proper monitoring of a possible ceasefire,” Sybiha said.
The top diplomat says this is an extremely complex process, both given that the front line is over 1,300 km long and that the battles are in progress, as well as given Ukraine’s negative experience within the Minsk process, where ceasefires were declared 25 times.
“To avoid possible provocations from the Russian side, we need to keep our guard on. Therefore, everything will now be aimed at ensuring that the Ukrainian side is ready – with appropriate teams with appropriate experience, modalities, including a future vision for an agreement or action plan to achieve a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine and, of course, the parameters and scope of a package of security guarantees for Ukraine. This work is already underway, and the team is actively working on it,” the Foreign Minister assured.
As reported earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said Moscow agreed with the proposal to cease hostilities in Ukraine, while putting forward its own conditions to this end.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he had the leverage over Russia required to achieve a ceasefire in its war against Ukraine, stopping short of naming them.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes Putin’s statements are yet another Russian manipulation aimed at dragging time and avoiding real steps toward peace.
