Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski confirmed that Warsaw will continue to support satellite communications in Ukraine through Starlink.
He made this statement on TVN24.
Gawkowski said that “Poland is currently supporting the internet in Ukraine.”
“Starlink provides internet access and ensures security in both civilian and military spheres. Thanks to it, the front holds. I spoke on Saturday with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister responsible for this part of cybersecurity (presumably Mykhailo Fedorov – Ed.),” he added.
The Polish Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that he “cannot imagine” Starlink being disconnected, as some media previously reported.
“Poland maintains it, Poland purchased Starlink and provided it to Ukraine. Poland ensures security because it pays the subscription fee. I cannot imagine any American corporation violating such agreements,” Gawkowski explained.
The official also announced that Warsaw has ordered “another five thousand Starlink terminals, which are already partially paid for and will be sent to Ukraine in the coming weeks and months.”
Starlink kits are mobile routers that provide access to satellite internet. Approximately 85% of the 20,000 terminals operating in Ukraine have been fully or partially funded by external sources, including Poland.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that there had been no indications from the U.S. regarding the possible disconnection of Starlink terminals in Ukraine. However, he stressed that the country must be prepared for such a scenario.
