Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on steel and aluminum, stated that Warsaw is “not panicking” but is preparing for possible consequences.
The Polish prime minister’s statement is cited by PAP.
Tusk noted that he is not surprised by Donald Trump’s decision on tariffs.
According to him, Poland’s aluminum exports to the U.S. amount to 411 tons, with 264,000 tons exported to other countries.
“We are not panicking, but we are preparing well for the possible consequences of tariff increases,” added the Polish prime minister.
He also announced that consultations on tariffs with all EU representatives would take place on Wednesday, during which a common position on the issue would be developed.
“I believe that as Poland, as the EU, we should respond in a balanced way. It is worth doing everything possible to avoid unnecessary trade and tariff wars, as they have negative consequences for both producers and consumers,” Tusk noted.
He also emphasized that it is important for the EU to act in solidarity.
As is known, on Monday, February 10, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that unjustified tariffs against the EU would not go unanswered.
