U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine “in principle agreed” to grant the U.S. access to the extraction of valuable minerals on its territory in exchange for aid.

This was reported by The New York Post.

Trump stated that Ukraine “in principle agreed” to grant the United States access to the extraction of valuable minerals in exchange for military aid and that he is interested in such an agreement.

“I told them that I want the equivalent of somewhere around 500 billion dollars in the form of rare earth minerals, and they in principle agreed to this… They have extraordinarily valuable land in terms of rare earth minerals, oil, gas, and other resources. I want some guarantees for our money because we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on Ukraine,” he stated in a comment to Fox News.

He continued that he expects such an agreement regardless of how events with the war and possible negotiations develop.

“They may agree, they may not agree. One day they may become Russian, or they may not become Russian. But we will have all these funds in Ukraine, and, so to speak, I want them back,” said Donald Trump, adding that he considers it “foolishness” to continue helping Ukraine for free.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently commented on how he sees a “deal” with Trump regarding mineral resources.

On Monday, information emerged in the media that the U.S. has suspended the development of a “peace plan” for Ukraine to talk with Europe.
