Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson announced the largest aid package to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The total amount of aid will be SEK 13.5 billion (approximately $1.25 billion).
Speaking at a press conference, quoted by the Swedish media outlet DN.se, Jonsson emphasized that Russia currently has the initiative in the war, so Europe should be more active in supporting Ukraine.
“Among other things, we are financing Ukrainian investments in drones and long-range missiles,” the minister said.
Sweden will also provide Ukraine with a significant amount of military equipment, including 16 combat boats, 1,500 anti-tank missiles, 146 trucks and 200 anti-tank grenade launchers.
Earlier in May, it was reported that Sweden plans to allocate 75 million kronor in military aid to Ukraine in the period of 2024-2026. In September, the government presented the 17th aid package worth SEK 4.6 billion (EUR 401.6 million).
