French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has plummeted to 21%, marking the lowest level since he first took office in May 2017.

According to the latest Ifop poll conducted for Le Journal du Dimanche and reported by Ukrinform:

“Macron is breaking records for unpopularity. In the latest Ifop survey, only 21% of French citizens expressed satisfaction with his performance. In other words, 79% are dissatisfied.”

This rating is now lower than during the peak of the “Yellow Vest” protests in early 2019. Notably, Macron has lost 10 percentage points among elderly citizens and retirees, traditionally his strongest electoral base.

Historically, the only French president with a worse rating was François Hollande, whose approval fell to 13% in late 2014.
