When asked about the idea of deploying a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine after the war ends, Zelenskyy stated that to prevent a new Russian attack following a ceasefire agreement, at least 200,000 European peacekeepers would be needed.
“From all Europeans? 200,000 is the minimum. This is the minimum; otherwise, it’s nothing,” the president said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that such forces would only be part of the security guarantees Ukraine requires.
The president also noted that Russian dictator Putin might demand a fivefold reduction in the Ukrainian army during potential negotiations. According to Zelenskyy, “reducing the Ukrainian army significantly” would be one of the critical issues in any possible peace talks.
However, he stressed that Kyiv would not concede to these demands.
“This is what he wants. We will not allow it to happen,” Zelenskyy said.
