Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis shared his views on Ukraine’s fight against Russia and the role of Western support in an interview with t-online.
Landsbergis emphasized that Ukraine must be provided with as many weapons as possible to stop Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and prevent him from seizing more Ukrainian territory.
“The price his army has to pay for this must become unbearable,” he said, underscoring the importance of allied support.
When asked what else the West can do beyond supplying weapons, the former minister highlighted that NATO membership is the only effective security guarantee for Ukraine.
“This is the cheapest and most effective solution,” Landsbergis asserted.
He also noted that Europe must push back against Putin if it wishes to continue existing as it does.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the prospect of ending the war or achieving a truce in Ukraine depends on Europe’s willingness to adopt a tougher stance against Russia. He added that without the Ukrainian army, Europe “stands no chance against Russia.”
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha reiterated in an interview with European Pravda that Ukraine will not abandon its goal of NATO membership and will not accept substitutes for full membership.
