Russia has said that it is ready to continue exporting gas to Europe via alternative routes ahead of the expiration of the contract for the transit of fuel through Ukraine at the end of this year. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Bloomberg reports.
Novak emphasized that the future of gas transit depends on agreements between Kiev and the European Union. According to him, Russia is ready to supply gas not only by the existing route through Ukraine, but also by other ways.
The expiration of the contract has raised concerns in countries such as Slovakia, which remains heavily dependent on gas supplies from Gazprom despite most European countries’ rejection of Russian pipeline fuel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine would not transit Russian gas without guarantees that the Kremlin could not use the proceeds to its advantage amid the ongoing war.
