Russia is unlikely to attack NATO countries at this time due to being exhausted by its full-scale war against Ukraine.
This was stated by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, according to Reuters.
“You ask if I fear that Russia will invade NATO. No, I don’t think Russia will do that because it would bring far more complications than it already faces in Ukraine,” Braže said.
She noted that Russia loses over 2,000 soldiers daily in its war against Ukraine. According to her, Russia’s total losses amount to 600,000–700,000 killed and severely wounded.
Braže also highlighted that Russia is experiencing economic difficulties.
“Things are not going well for Russia, including economically. While we do not face direct military threats, we take our defense very seriously,” she emphasized.
She also assured that Latvia would work with the new Donald Trump administration following his inauguration.
Earlier, Bruno Kahl, head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service, suggested that Russia could launch an attack on NATO territory in the coming years—by the end of this decade.
