The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, after a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris and against the backdrop of the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, declared Kyiv’s desire to reach an agreement to stop the war.

Trump wrote this on his social network, Truth Social.

The future U.S. president, in light of the Syrian rebels declaring the capital Damascus “free” from the regime, stated that Bashar al-Assad “is no more” and that he fled his country. Moreover, according to Trump, Russia is no longer interested in defending its Syrian ally.

“Russia had no reason to be there (in Syria – Ed.). They have lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where about 600,000 Russian soldiers lie wounded or killed in a war that should never have started and could last forever,” Trump wrote.

He added that Russia and Iran are now in a weakened state — one due to Ukraine and its poor economy, and the other due to Israel and its military successes.

“Similarly, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to strike a deal and stop the madness. They have senselessly lost 400,000 soldiers and far more civilians. There must be an immediate ceasefire, and negotiations must begin,” Trump stated.

He noted that he “knows Vladimir well” and that now is “his time to act.” Trump added that China could also help and that “the world is waiting” for this.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Paris on December 7 with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. After the meeting, he noted, “We all want to end this war as soon as possible and justly.”

The meeting between Zelenskyy, Macron, and Trump lasted about 35 minutes.
