U.S. President Joe Biden, during a meeting with his successor Donald Trump, discussed the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russian aggression.
This was stated by Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
According to Sullivan, Biden attempted to convey his position to Trump, emphasizing that continuing to support Ukraine and strengthening European allies aligns with U.S. national security interests and helps prevent the country from being drawn into a new war.
“President Biden reaffirmed his position that the United States supports Ukraine on an ongoing basis in the interest of our national security,” Sullivan noted.
He stressed that a strong and stable Europe, which stands up to aggressors and dictators, is “vital” to prevent the U.S. from being dragged into another war, something that has already occurred twice in the 20th century.
Sullivan also emphasized that the Biden administration will continue to present these arguments to the transition team both publicly and privately.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of continuing U.S. assistance to Ukraine within the funds approved by Congress, as much of this aid serves as an investment in U.S. jobs related to the production of weapons for Ukraine.
The White House previously reported that the meeting between Donald Trump and Joe Biden lasted about two hours.
Commenting on his meeting with Biden, Trump stated that they discussed the war in Ukraine and the escalation in the Middle East.
