Mike Waltz, a likely National Security Advisor in the future administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, believes that the Republican leader wants to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.

According to Voice of America, after a meeting with Republicans and Trump on Wednesday, November 13, Waltz stated that Trump is focused on ending the war, not prolonging it.

“The president has clearly stated that he wants to bring both sides to the negotiating table. He is focused on ending the war, not continuing it,” he emphasized.

Waltz highlighted that the security policy vision regarding Ukraine depends on Trump’s decision.

“It’s not up to me, it’s up to the president’s decision,” said the nominee for National Security Advisor.

It is worth noting that Jake Sullivan holds the position of National Security Advisor in Joe Biden’s administration, responsible for briefing the president on key national security issues and coordinating with various agencies.

As reported, Waltz is a U.S. Army veteran and the first “Green Beret” (he served in U.S. Special Forces) to be elected to Congress.

Earlier, Fox News cited several sources who reported that Trump may soon appoint a special representative responsible for “peace talks” between Ukraine and Russia.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that among Trump’s inner circle, there is a proposed idea to “freeze the front” along the current front line with a demilitarized zone and a 20-year moratorium on Ukraine’s NATO membership in order to fulfill his promise to “quickly end the war.”
