U.S. President-elect Donald Trump plans to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table on his first day in office, reports Associated Press.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he could stop Russia’s war against Ukraine within 24 hours. Following his official election victory announcement, his press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, said Trump would now be able to initiate peace talks for Ukraine.
“Trump’s first day in office will include bringing Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table to end this war,” Leavitt stated.
Earlier, Financial Times reported that Trump outlined a plan for ending the war in Ukraine, which includes Ukraine not joining NATO and applying economic pressure on Putin. Trump has also stated that his goal is to stop all wars worldwide.
According to The Telegraph, Trump’s new “peace plan” for Ukraine includes deploying European troops in a buffer zone.
