U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power to the incoming administration of Donald Trump and assured his full support for this process.

In his address on Thursday, November 7, Biden highlighted that the United States is a democracy where “the will of the people always prevails,” referencing Trump’s election victory.

“Yesterday, I spoke with President-elect Trump, congratulated him on his victory, and assured him that I have instructed my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transfer of power. This is what the American people deserve,” he added.

Biden also commended Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for leading an “inspiring campaign” and giving it her all.

Additionally, he stressed the need for all Americans to accept the election results, regardless of their preferred candidate.

“As I have often said: you cannot love the country only when you win; you cannot love your neighbor only when you agree with them. I hope that, regardless of who you voted for, we can see each other not as enemies, but as fellow citizens and lower the temperature,” Biden urged.

Earlier, Biden had called President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his election victory, also inviting Trump to the White House to discuss the transition process.

Reports later indicated that Trump accepted Biden’s invitation to meet at the White House for talks on the power transfer.
