Experts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have analyzed potential damage to Russian missile ships and corvettes in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, by Ukrainian drones on November 6.
On that day, Ukrainian forces reportedly launched a strike on a Russian naval base in Kaspiysk, damaging several missile ships of Russia’s Caspian Flotilla. The attack is said to have targeted the naval base, potentially damaging Tatarstan– and Dagestan-class frigates, as well as several Buyan-class corvettes nearby.
The report also notes that Sergey Melikov, head of the Dagestan Republic, announced that Russian forces had downed a Ukrainian drone over Kaspiysk on November 6, though he did not detail the outcome.
Satellite images from November 6 indicate the possible presence of three Buyan-class ships, two Buyan-M ships, one Tarantul-class ship, one Gepard-class ship, and one Karakurt-class ship in the Kaspiysk port at the time of the strike. However, analysts note that these images are insufficient to identify specific damage to ships or naval docks.
“Geolocated images released on November 6 show that drones targeted port infrastructure in Kaspiysk,” according to ISW’s report.
