U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned Tehran that it “should not make a mistake by responding to Israel’s strikes.”

His words were quoted by The Guardian.

According to the publication, Austin discussed Saturday’s Israeli strikes on Iran with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant.

During the conversation, the U.S. Defense Secretary cautioned Tehran that it “should not make a mistake by responding to Israel’s strikes, which are intended to put an end to this exchange.”

The two sides also discussed possible diplomatic measures to reduce regional tensions, including the release of hostages, a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and an agreement concerning Lebanon.

Recently, the Israel Defense Forces announced strikes on Iran in response to “months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime.” The targets of the Israeli strikes were military facilities.

According to three Israeli sources from Axios, this strike destroyed a critical component of Iran’s ballistic missile development program.

The U.S. presidential administration stated that the American side did not participate in Israel’s operation against Iran.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Iran not to retaliate, stating that the Middle East must “avoid further regional escalation.”
