Defense ministers from the G7 countries have expressed their support for Ukraine’s irreversible path toward full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership.

This is stated in a joint declaration following their meeting in Naples.

In the statement, the ministers emphasized their commitment to continue assisting Ukraine, including providing military support in both the short and long term.

“We support Ukraine on its irreversible path toward full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership,” the statement reads.

The ministers highlighted the importance of continuing to support the training and educational needs of Ukrainian defense forces.

“We welcome NATO and EU’s relevant efforts through the NATO Assistance and Training Program for Ukraine and the EU Military Assistance Mission to support Ukraine, which will also contribute to the long-term development and reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including military assistance,” the document notes.

The ministers consider it a priority to work on solutions to create a Ukrainian army that is interoperable with NATO member states, capable of defending Ukraine now and deterring future attacks.

“We reaffirm that our ultimate goal remains to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with international law, as outlined in the UN Charter and its principles, ensuring respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the document emphasizes.

To recall, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented his “victory plan,” consisting of five points. The first calls for the immediate invitation of Ukraine to NATO.

The White House commented on Zelenskyy’s “victory plan,” stating that there is no consensus in NATO regarding Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan indicated that necessary reforms and security conditions must be met for Ukraine’s NATO membership.
