India has become the second-largest supplier of critical technologies to Russia, after China, as sanctions have been imposed on Moscow, according to European and American officials.
Bloomberg reported this.
According to the agency’s sources, the export of sanctioned goods, such as microchips and machine tools, from India to Russia in April-May 2024 exceeded $60 million, which is about twice as much as in the previous months of this year.
In July, exports surged to $95 million, second only to China in volume, Bloomberg notes. Overall, Russia receives about one-fifth of the secret technologies for its military-industrial complex through India.
The agency’s sources indicate that Indian officials have largely remained unresponsive to inquiries from Western ambassadors regarding India’s assistance to Russia.
Due to India’s role as a transit country for sanctioned goods heading to Russia, European Union and U.S. officials have repeatedly visited India in recent months.
Earlier this year, the U.S. State Department expressed concerns about India’s cooperation with Russia in military and technological areas, as well as their overall bilateral relations.
