U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris stated that she would not meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to resolve the war he started against Ukraine.
Harris made this comment in an interview with CBS News.
When asked if she would agree to meet with Putin to seek a way to resolve the situation in Ukraine, Harris responded negatively.
“On a bilateral basis without Ukraine—no. Ukraine must have a voice regarding its future,” she emphasized.
The Vice President added that the U.S. currently supports Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.
“If Donald Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now. He talks about how, ‘Oh, he can end this in one day.’ You know what that means? It means capitulation,” Harris stressed.
Regarding Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, she stated, “That is a question we will address if and when it comes to that.”
It is worth noting that Harris’s opponent in the presidential race, Donald Trump, after meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed his support for a “just” peace for Ukraine but refrained from specifics about what kind of agreement he would consider fair to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump praised Zelenskyy’s actions during the Democrats’ attempts to impeach him and stated that they have “a wonderful relationship.” However, he immediately said the same about his relationship with the Russian leader and again expressed confidence that he could quickly stop the war.
