French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the world to avoid double standards when assessing the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
During his speech at the 19th Francophonie Summit near Paris, Macron emphasized the importance of maintaining consistent diplomatic principles, according AFP.
Macron referred to the Francophone world as a place “where we can collectively engage in diplomacy that defends sovereignty and territorial integrity anywhere on the planet.”
“This is a place that speaks the same language with Ukraine, which is under attack today, whose borders and territorial integrity are threatened by Russia’s war of aggression. But it also upholds a vision where there is no room for double standards, where all lives are valued equally in every conflict worldwide,” he added.
The French president also mentioned Lebanon, a former French colony, whose “sovereignty and peace are now shaken” due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
“There can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution,” he continued, referring to the need for independent states of Palestine and Israel with security guarantees for the latter.
It is worth noting that earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda had remarked that the EU and the U.S. apply double standards, treating aid to Israel and Ukraine differently.
