The document was kept secret until the very end. It was only known that it contained four points — a step-by-step instruction on how to achieve a just peace in Ukraine and defeat Russia in the war it had unleashed.
The leaders of the countries discussed in detail military assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and touched upon the issue of the possible use of long-range weapons to strike military targets in the Russian Federation. Ukraine and the United States share a common vision of the future of the Ukrainian state in the EU and NATO, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with Joe Biden.
US President Joe Biden also announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine. He also declared his support for Ukraine on its path to membership in the European Union and NATO.
“I see two key points. First, we must strengthen Ukraine’s position on the battlefield. And that is why today I am announcing a new package of $2.4 billion. I have also instructed the Pentagon to disburse all remaining security funds that have been allocated to Ukraine by the end of my term, which is January 20. This will strengthen Ukraine’s position. Second, we are looking forward to helping Ukraine succeed in the long term. As we said at the summit in Washington, we must support Ukraine on its path to membership in both the EU and NATO, and continue to implement the anti-corruption and democracy-building reforms that you are actively working on now. We must ensure that Ukraine has sufficient capacity to defend itself against future Russian aggression,” Joe Biden said.
He recalled that this summer, an agreement on Ukraine was agreed upon with more than 20 countries committed to the country’s long-term security. And yesterday, more than 30 countries, including the United States, adopted a joint declaration on supporting the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine, in particular using Russian assets.
“With these actions, we have made it clear that we support Ukraine now and in the future. In conclusion, let me say the following. These two elements are critical to how this war ends. Russia will not win the war. Ukraine will win. And we will continue to support you every step of the way,” the US President emphasized.
American support is extremely important to us in countering Russian aggression. We must restore normal life, and we appreciate your leadership. We already have 27 security agreements. We have a strong security agreement with the United States. We will fully implement all of this. It is very important to us that we share a common vision of security. You have just allocated us a large package of military assistance, we are grateful for this. We will coordinate our actions. We will work to implement all future steps,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that today he held a meeting with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, who expressed bipartisan support.
