Up to 20,000 Hasidic pilgrims are expected to arrive in Ukraine on Wednesday (Sep. 25), the press office of the State Border Guard Service told Ukrinform.
“Tomorrow Ukraine expects up to 20,000 pilgrims. Specifically, up to 17,000 pilgrims are expected to arrive at Boryspil Airport tomorrow. Their registration will take place at Terminal B. This terminal will be opened specifically for the registration of these flights. Up to 3,000 pilgrims are expected to arrive at airports in Odesa and Vinnytsia tomorrow,” the press office said.
The agency stated that about 30,000 Hasidic pilgrims visited Ukraine last year. This year, Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) falls on the evening of Sep. 29. The holiday will last for two days until the evening of Oct. 1. Ukrainian border guards have currently registered about 250 pilgrims. The largest groups of Hasidic pilgrims are to come on Sep. 25, 26 and 27.
