In Suceava Romania, during training flights for a local air show, two light-engined aircrafts collided, killing one of the pilots.

The planes became tangled mid-flight before entering a spiral and hurtling to the ground.

Aerobatics pilot Cornel Marinescu, 60, was identified as the man who died in the crash Saturday. Local media said Marinescu, nicknamed Q, was a highly experienced pilot once part of the Hawks of Romania flying squad.

His 53-year-old counterpart is reported to be in a critical condition after being airlifted to hospital.

The pilots were preparing for an airshow – now canceled – which was to take place at Stefan the Great airport in Suceava.
