Today, Ukraine celebrates Infantry Day for the first time.
The holiday was established by presidential decree on April 19, with the aim of honoring the courage and heroism of warriors of the mechanized, motorized, and mountain assault military units and subdivisions of the Ukrainian Ground Forces shown in their struggle for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Ukrinform reported.
Mechanized, motorized and mountain assault military units form the basis of the Ukrainian Ground Forces and carry out tasks on holding the areas, boundaries and positions occupied, repelling attacks and breaking through the enemy’s defense, capturing positions, boundaries and facilities. At the same time, mechanized squads and tank units are used to surround and destroy the enemy.
Infantry is the largest branch in the Ukrainian army and combat capabilities basis of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. They bear the greatest load and play a crucial role in fulfilling the tasks of the Ukrainian Joint Forces.
